PET HAPPENINGS

LICENSING

On or before July 1 of each year, the owners of all dogs and cats or those who harbor or maintain dogs or cats in the unincorporated or incorporated areas in Harlan County, Kentucky, shall have each and every dog and cat licensed and registered.

The cost for the annual Pet License is $1.50 each (six months of age or older). The annual Kennel License is as follows: Up to 10 dogs/cats, $10.00; 10 or more dogs/cats, $15.00.

Any person violating, or failing or refusing to comply with Harlan County’s Licensing and Registration of Animals (Pets) Ordinance shall be subject to a fine of $15.00 for each separate offense.

ANIMAL ADOPTIONS

Cats/kittens:  $7.00 each; Dogs/puppies: $15.00 each. 

Animal Adoption Contract must be signed and abided by.  Pet(s) must be spayed or neutered within one (1) month of adoption from the Harlan County Animal Shelter.  The Harlan Animal Clinic will spay/neuter the adopted pet.  The cost is as follows:  Dog, $67.48 each; Cat, $55.00 each.  A copy of the signed Animal Adoption Contract must be presented to the clinic.
